Obesity a Contributing Cause of Arthritis of the Knee is Now Being Treated with Regenerative Medicine at the Center for Regenerative Medicine

(PRWEB) July 25, 2012
“Obesity a contributing cause of arthritis of the knee is now being treated with regenerative medicine at the Center for Regenerative Medicine.” according to A.J. Farshchian MD an orthopedic regenerative practitioner at the center for regenerative medicine.
The prevalence of both obesity and knee arthritis continue to increase globally more so in the developed countries. In the United States alone almost 33% of the adult population are considered as obese, while knee pain is the number one reason for visits to the center.
Weight loss can decrease knee pain if patient is greatly overweight. However weight loss alone is unlikely to completely relieve the pain. Obesity also makes other complications such as Diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Studies have shown that obese persons, especially obese older women, are at higher risk for knee osteoarthritis (OA). We have learned from The Framingham Study (The largest study done up to this point which is a landmark study, it began in 1948 in which some 12,000 residents of the town of Framingham, Massachusetts were enrolled) that a drop in weight as little as 11 lbs can decrease the risk of developing knee osteoarthritis. On the basis of epidemiologic findings such as these, the center likes to start a weight loss program as early as possible on the patients who suffer from osteoarthritis of knee, hip or ankle (the weight bearing joints).
The Center for Regenerative Medicine in Miami, Florida concentrates on helping arthritic and injured people to get back to a functional level of life and their activities using non-surgical techniques and Orthopedic medicine. The center’s expertise is in treatment of conditions of spine, knees, shoulders, and other cartilage damages. They have developed non-surgical and rehabilitation techniques focused on treatment and management of joint pain. Their team includes health professionals organized around a central theme. Rheumatic Diseases Remain a Significant Cause of Chronic Illness in Children; with Juvenile Arthritis One of the Most Prevalent Types
Dublin (PRWEB) February 23, 2006
Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c33130) has announced the addition of Juvenile Arthritis – A Niche in the Market to their offering.
Juvenile arthritis is the next indication due for approval for blockbuster biologic therapies Remicade (infliximab) and Humira (adalimumab). Pediatric rheumatology is a growing specialty that offers high unmet need in terms of effective well-tested treatments. Rheumatic diseases remain a significant cause of chronic illness in children, with juvenile arthritis one of the most prevalent types.
Scope of this title:
Outline of the various juvenile arthritis classifications and guidelines
Insight into the use of key drug classes including disease modifying and pain killing treatments
Assess the future product positioning and life-cycle management strategies as commercially viable strategies are proposed for drug development in JIA
Read the latest data for novel products in clinical trials for this indication
Highlights of this title:
Classifications for juvenile arthritis are often dissimilar, and vary from the US to the EU. The International League for Arthritis Research (ILAR) has outlined a definitive Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) definition which is now being adopted in clinical trials.
Pathology differs from adult RA mechanisms, but IL-1 and IL-6 appear to be key mediators and inhibition of each has shown promise in JIA. Kineret (anakinra) the only IL-1 inhibitor currently available does not appear to be in development for JIA, but Actemra (tocilizumab) is expected to launch in both adult and juvenile RA in the near future.
Orphan designation qualifies the sponsor of the product for tax credit and marketing incentives, and all three biologic TNF-inhibitors currently have orphan designation in the US but only Enbrel (etanercept) is approved in this indication. Novel products are advised to apply for this designation.

Your child may start with a swollen knuckle, intermittent fever or an unexplained rash. But regardless of specific symptoms present, hear the word “arthritis” as a diagnosis of what happens to your child can be unexpected and it is normal that generates some confusion.
Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints that is characterized, apart from swelling, heat and joint pain. Nearly 300,000 children in the U.S. have some form of arthritis. The arthritis may be acute, lasting a few weeks or months and then finally disappearing, or chronic, lasting months or years. In rare cases can last a lifetime.
The most common form of juvenile arthritis isjuvenile rheumatoid arthritis or juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA). It affects approximately 50,000 children in the U.S. This disease is also known as juvenile idiopathic arthritis because it is very different from adult rheumatoid arthritis. What is the cause of eumatoid arthritis in children. Research indicates that it is an autoimmune disease. In autoimmune disease the white blood cells lose the ability to detect the difference between the cells and tissues of the body, on the one hand, and invading germs such as bacteria and viruses, on the other. The immune system, which is supposed to protect the body from these harmful invaders, releases chemicals that attack the body’s own healthy tissues, causing swelling and pain.
To effectively control arthritis and minimize its effects, it is essential to an early and accurate diagnosis. Understanding the symptoms and characteristics of different types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, can help your child lead an active and productive life.

Does an extremely low fat diet cause major joint pain especially in the back and cold appendages? ?
Question by FluffyPanda: Does an extremely low fat diet cause major joint pain especially in the back and cold appendages? ?
the only fat I eat these days are from a few eggs a day and the little bit of butter I put on the frying pan, beside that I eat mostly carbs and protein without fat.
Recently I’ve been getting joint pain everywhere and my spin feels like it’s going to snap off. my neck spin area hurts.
I’ve also been getting extremely cold hands, feet and tip of the nose.
Is this due to my very low fat diet?
Best answer:
Answer by McLovin
Could be. Joint pain is definately a possiblity in low fat diets as there is often less lubrication around your joints/tendons. The consensus is usually to use a joint health supplement containing glucosamine and condroitin. Although these supps usually take a while to really kick in, there are some fast acting glucosamine/condroitin formulas out there that will help lubricate your joints.

Neck pain remains as a major cause of disabilty

(PRWEB) May 19, 2012
Neck pain remains as a major cause of disabilty, according to Dr. A. J. Farshchian MD the medical director for the center for Regenerative medicine.
All the interconnected structures that give your neck its incredible range of motion are subject to the wear-and-tear damage of arthritis and the overextension injuries of whiplash. Neck pain may result from abnormalities in the soft tissues – the muscles, ligaments, and nerves – as well as in bones and joints of the spine. The most common causes of neck pain are soft tissue abnormalities due to injury or prolonged wear and tear. In rare cases, infection or tumors may cause neck pain. In some people, neck problems may be the source of pain in the upper back, shoulders or arms.
Degenerative diseases that cause neck pain include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis usually occurs in older people as a result of wear of the joints between the bones in the neck. Rheumatoid arthritis can cause destruction of the joints of the neck. Both of these major types of arthritis can cause stiffness and pain.
Cervical disk degeneration also can cause neck pain. The disk acts as a shock absorber between the bones in the neck. In cervical disk degeneration (typically age 40 onwards), the normal gelatin-like center of the disk degenerates and the space between the vertebrae narrows. As the disk space narrows, added stress is applied to the joints of the spine causing further wear and degenerative disease.
The cervical disk may also protrude and cause pressure on the spinal cord or nerve roots when the rim of the disk weakens. This is known as a herniated cervical disk. Because the neck is so flexible and because it supports the head, it is extremely vulnerable to injury. Motor vehicle or diving accidents, contact sports, and falls may result in neck injury. The regular use of safety belts in motor vehicles can help to prevent or minimize injury. A “rear end” automobile collision may result in hyper extension, a backward motion of the neck beyond normal limits, or hyperflexion, a forward motion of the neck beyond normal limits. Most common injuries are to the soft tissues, i.e., muscles and ligaments. Severe injury with fracture or dislocation of the neck may damage the spinal cord and cause paralysis .
Much less common causes of neck pain include tumors, infections, or congenital abnormalities of the vertebrae. There is also the emotional part, I mean why would the pain get worse with stress and get better with less stress, this must be emphasized when treating patient with neck pain other wise the job is not done. Why the tingling of the fingers? this is because of nerve conduction and dermatomes. Dermatomes are located on the anterior body and the posterior body and are consecutive in the neck and torso regions. Development of the peripheral nervous system will produce a pattern of skin innervated by cutaneous neurons of a certain spinal or cranial nerves. These are called dermatomes and represent specific regions of nerve reception of sensory impulses. The pattern of the dermatome is of major clinical significance when a physician desires to treat a particular portion of the body. For instance the gentleman discussed in the above case having numbness in the index finger as well as his thumb (refer to the picture) may need to be treated specifically at the level of C6-C7.

Camels with a Cause Helps Ease the Pain of Arthritis

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) April 14, 2009
Nashville-based cj Advertising and its charity fundraising initiative, Camels with a Cause (CWAC), have announced its latest mission — helping raise funds for the Arthritis Foundation and fund research toward new medications to fight debilitating diseases.
Helping One of Our Own:
CWAC’s most recent effort is being led by Jason Clark, cj’s Development Team Lead, whose wife, Zoni, was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 12. Now, as a mother of three young children, Zoni knows firsthand how the effects of arthritis can make even the simplest activities, such as tying her children’s shoes, impossible.
“I’m so grateful for everyone at cj Advertising and Camels with a Cause for helping me and my family while also creating awareness about arthritis,” Zoni said. “These walks have helped fund research that has led to the development of treatments to make the lives of those who suffer from arthritis less painful.”
On Sunday, April 19, the members of CWAC along with many other community members will participate in the Goodlettsville/Sumner County Arthritis Walk at Moss Wright Park in Goodlettsville. The goal of the walk is to raise awareness and funds to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. This year’s Walk Honoree is Tiffany Cripps, a hairdresser who contracted rheumatoid arthritis in 2004 from a virus her sons had.
“The severity of arthritis never seems to get the attention it deserves because it’s usually seen as a natural part of aging,” Jason said. “Many people, however, don’t realize the impact arthritis has on people of all ages. While it’s typically not life-threatening, it is life-altering and can make even the simplest of tasks impossible.”
The members of CWAC have divided into teams and set donation goals for Sunday’s walk. The donations raised will help fund research for arthritis treatments and, currently, CWAC has raised $ 5,318.64 for the event. The CWAC teams participating in the walk are the Raging Dolphins, Russell’s Mussels, Show Me the Money, Sparkle Motion, and Walker Texas Rangers.
Arthritis–More than an “Age Thing”:
There are more than 100 forms of the disease, and they can affect people regardless of age, sex, or race. Although most people associate arthritis with osteoarthritis and old age, this disease affects children as well. More than 300,000 children suffer from some the effects of some form of this disease. In the United States alone, more than 46 million people suffer from a form of arthritis, which includes lupus and fibromyalgia.
The Goodlettsville/Sumner County Arthritis Walk will be held at Moss Wright Park located at 745 Caldwell Lane in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Registration for the walk begins at 2 p.m. and the walk begins at 3 p.m. Live music will be provided by Garage Band Revival.

Those interested in learning more about CWAC or in supporting the Arthritis Foundation can visit http://www.CamelsWithACause.com. All the funds raised by CWAC will support the Arthritis Foundation.
About Camels with a Cause:
Camels with a Cause (CWAC) is designed to serve as cj Advertising’s conduit of support for one deserving charitable opportunity three times a year. The project is empowered by a staff of more than 50 at the agency with one hundred percent of raised funds being donated to charity. By the staff members at cj contributing their talents–such as Web design, copywriting, production, and graphic design–to this project, it has become a true team effort. Staff members are encouraged to nominate their favorite charities with the only requirement being that they must tap into their passions to lead the charge to fulfill a need for that charity. If the staff member commits to chairing the event, the agency will fully support that employee and respective charity for the period.
CWAC’s previous efforts include raising more than $ 23,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well as helping a fellow cj employee launch his five-year dream of creating a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing aid to Jamaicans. CWAC also organized a food drive for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and helped collect more than 200 presents for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program.
