Q&A: Do I have Juvenile Arthritis?

Sep 10, 2012   //   by   //   Blog  //  1 Comment

Question by Scarper: Do I have Juvenile Arthritis?
So I’ve been having joint pains on and off in my teens but they’ve usually been dismissed as growing pains by parents, doctors and friends. Im now 18 yet I have not grown since 15 and the pain has become more intense. Do you think this could be arthritis? The pains are usually in my knees, hips, calves and lower back and really intense such that i can’t walk or sleep sometimes. Or could this be a late growth spurt?

Other Info:
My height: 5’7″
Weight:110 pounds
Armspan:6’1″
I’m taller than both parents

Juvenile arthritis generally is diagnosed before the age of 16. However, since you have had joint pains earlier in your life and also because the pain is intense and interrupts your activities and sleep, you should probably see your doctor or a rheumatologist for some blood tests. This doesn’t mean they would be looking specifically for rheumatoid arthritis; there are many other things that can cause joint pain such as you describe. But no one could make an informed decision from a description, so I would definitely make an appointment.

Question by Mr. Chicken: Do I Have Juvenile Arthritis?
I’m 15. If I sit for long enough, when I get up my knee joints get a pressure pain. Sometimes When I walk for the shortest time I have to sit down for a little while because my knee joints are killing me. Even if they’re not moving sometimes they still hurt. What could be wrong with me?
